The use of authentic Italian material and the communicative teaching approach stimulate the student to immediately put into practice the structures taken in consideration, with the purpose of reaching the linguistic performance of contemporary Italian, according to simple grammatical rules. Exercises and group activities are targeted to the checking of the students’ morpho-syntactic acquisition, to the expansion of their lexical repertoire and to phonetic corrections, besides offering an opportunity for debates about Italian culture and Venice.
Initial test and levels
Based on an assessment test, which takes place at the beginning of each course, students will be divided into different levels. For regular monthly courses (RM), intensive summer courses (IE) and other special courses, the following levels of learning are used, corresponding to the parameters defined by the European Reference Framework for the learning of foreign languages:
Aimed at those who are already in possession of the basic structures, it provides for the completion of the study of basic grammar and for an improvement in the ability to speak, with an expansion of the lexical repertoire and phonetic correction. Parallel to the strictly linguistic aspect, a series of activities promotes the discussion of topics related to Italian culture and civilization.
Intended for students who have a medium-high linguistic knowledge, it involves the investigation of morpho-syntactic structures and the improvement of oral and written skills, with particular attention to the different registers of Italian. The use of original Italian materials, in addition to offering authentic language models, promotes the discussion of socio-cultural phenomena of today.
Exam and certificate
At the end of each course, a certificate of attendance and, on request, a certificate of profit with an attestation of European credits, will be released. The Special Erasmus courses (SE) provide a final exam to achieve a vote of thirty/30, according to the Italian academic system, convertible in the scale used at the University where the student comes from.
